Shrek The Third May 20, 2007

What the heck happened here! I was surprised when the film got bad reviews but I thought it was just a case of the critics getting bored of the characters before the audience. I was so wrong. This film isn’t half as funny as the previous two installments. In fact, the kids in the audience weren’t too amused by the proceedings either. If this was another movie, I would probably have called it average but it is the Shrek series and this is a big disappointment.

I don’t know who is to be blamed for this but something certainly went wrong. The inventiveness and ideas are clearly lacking for a large part of the film. One person missing from the team this time is director Andrew Adamson who was a part of the directorial team for both the earlier movies. This film is directed by debutant Chris Miller who hasn’t lived up to the expectations created by the previous two films in the franchise. The voice cast is superb as usual.

For those who are interested in the story, it goes thus. The Frog King is dead and Shrek is now the heir. However, he realizes that he isn’t cut out for the job. So, he goes in search of the only other heir, Arthur/Artie. To complicate things, Shrek is going to be a father and he is scared by the thought. Meanwhile, as Shrek is away, Prince Charming takes over the kingdom. Now Shrek must return and defeat Prince Charming and Arthur must take over as the new king.

There is talk of three more films in the franchise including a Puss-in-Boots spinoff. I hope the studio stops here (though the spinoff seems an interesting idea).

An average watch for the fans. The rest can safely avoid this.

Times have changed. Traditionally a trilogy was pushing it but now six seems to be a standard-

Terminator
Shrek
Pirates of the Carribean
Spidey

WTF?

2. The 2 Witches - May 21, 2007

We went to see Shrek the Third this weekend and while, overall, we enjoyed ourselves it was a letdown compared to the first 2 in the series.

It was a let down when compared to the previous Shrek movies, but it can be watched once.

4. Santosh Nair - December 1, 2007

Its a huge letdown considering the innovativeness and humour of the previous flicks in the shrek triology.
Eddie Murphy is as usual at his best but there was something which was lacking in the third part,i think the director forgot to include it while its making…and thats HUMOUR….
If you are doing nothing or true Shrek fan then only go for it…else it can be given a miss……………
