When this film was launched last year, I was quite surprised that a director like Chandrasekhar Yeleti who swam against the tide with films like Aithe and Anukokunda Oka Roju opted for a regular commercial mass entertainer. Still, I was expecting something different from him even with a movie like this.

The movie starts off quite interestingly with the bad guy Sona Bhai (Mahesh Manjrekar) deperately in need of a heart of a person with the rare “Bombay Blood Group”. As expected, our hero Gopichand is the only fit guy in the country with this blood group…and now the bad guys are after his heart. Our hero also has certain personal problems he needs to take care of so running away doesn’t seem to be a simple solution. The stage is set for a really interesting cat-n-mouse chase thriller but alas the whole affair is reduced to a series of one-guy-bashing-up-twenty situations and even these aren’t exciting enough.

Apart from the basic premise, Yeleti seems to have forgotten to put any serious thought into his film. On the brighter side, it is not an outrightly boring film per se. The regular doses of action make sure that one doesn’t fall asleep. Gopichand does well in a subdued role and fans of his should be happy. Neha Jhulka is cute and far superior when compared to the new actresses popping out in recent times. Her face looks quite familiar though…probably must have seen her on TV or something. Mahesh Manjrekar, Nazar and Rahul Dev are competent as the bad guys. Brahmanandam has more or less a cameo appearance in what is probably the film’s only funny sequence. Keeravani’s music is average.

The action sequences (Allan Amin) are okay but they have their share of flying people (thankfully not too many to put you off completely). I checked this movie out the very next day I saw another actioner Jagadam, so that’s one more reason I didn’t find Okkadunnadu appealing. Coming from Yeleti, this is a disappointment of sorts but watch this if you are a Gopichand fan or if you don’t have anything better to do.
