This movie is supposed to be one of the biggest hits in Venkatesh’s career. The family (melo)drama genre is something that does not really interest me after seeing innumerable flicks in the genre since I was a kid. What pulled me to the movie was the director V.V.Vinayak. Among the new generation of directors in Telugu cinema, he is one of those that is better equipped technically. Also he has brought some freshness to the mass genre with likable humor and some mind games apart from the standard mass elements. So, I wanted to see if he did something similar to this family drama. However, I was totally disappointed with the film. It has an intelligent mix of family drama and mass oriented action to appeal to the target audience but there isn’t any freshness. The sentiment in the film would appeal to family audiences, particularly ladies. The movie also has sequences appealing to the masses. The comedy is nothing great but it is passable. The music by Ramana Gogula is appealing (the Dhaga Dhaga number never fails to get my feet moving). Venkatesh suits his role well having played many such roles before. Nayanathara gets a decent role while Charmy does not have much to do. Rajiv Kanakala and Sharwanand get supporting roles that do not have much scope to display their talents. Vinayak does a good job of writing a movie that appeals to a certain audience but there isn’t too much in terms of direction that is worth mentioning. Those who like to watch family dramas with a lot of sentiment and melodrama might want to watch this while the others can safely stay away.
