Sai and Shujath talk Cinema

The first thing that brought my attention to this movie was the music by Kalyani Malik (whose most famous score is Aithe). After listening to the music repeatedly, I wanted to check out this movie (I liked the songs “Kokilamma”, “Gundello Emundo”, “Pranamlo Pranamga” and “O Sari Preminchaka” in that order). Now this is a mass flick (though it is more classy than a Bala Krishna movie) starring Gopichand with action sequences, “powerful” characterization of the hero and villain, sequences to elevate the hero and so on. Unlike the movies of NTR and Balakrishna, Gopichand’s characterization is more subtle here. The first half moves along quickly with small twists instead of the conventional hero-heroine track in movies of this genre. The second half is again laced with interesting episodes to keep your attention. The climax, though, is a letdown. It goes against the tone of the rest of the movie with illogical scenes (not that the rest of the movie is realistic but the climax stretches it too far) and action sequences (which look good though). One of the few heroes with decent looks, Gopichand delivers a good performance. This is the first movie that I’ve seen him playing hero and he succeeds. He has good screen presence and is likeable to both mass and class audience alike. Sayaji Shinde as the villain from Bihar is a good match for the hero (who else can play a Bihari villain better!). The movie has good comic relief also (especially the sequences between Gopichand and the guy who plays Sayaji Shinde’s son). I liked this movie and believe this is among the better mass flicks released in the last couple of years. Those who enjoy films in this genre might like to watch it while others might want to check out its music.
